According to reports, Juan Yanez-Mejia, a 38-year old Union City man (pictured left) was arrested last night after his wife told officers that he threatened to kill her with a kitchen knife at her North Bergen home on 44th Street and Grand Avenue.
Officers from the North Bergen Police Department were dispatched to the victim’s residence after neighbors reported a domestic violence disturbance. Upon their arrival around 10pm, officers spoke with Yanez-Mejia’s wife. She told them that during the course of an argument with her husband, he grabbed a kitchen knife, held it to her throat, and told her that he was going to kill her. He was arrested at the scene and charged with Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Criminal Mischief.
There is no information as to whether the victim sustained any injuries or whether she sought a Temporary Restraining Order.
He was later released on $35,000 bail.

If convicted of the more serious offenses, Yanez-Mejia could face upwards of 3 years in New Jersey State Prison.
