Teen girl grazed by stray bullet, Paterson police say

A 17-year-old girl was grazed on her head by a stray bullet in Paterson that pierced the wall of her family’s Main Street apartment late Thursday, authorities said.

Patrol officers were called to the area of Main and Weiss streets for reports of gunfire around 9 p.m., according to Detective Lt. Patrick Murray. Officers found the wounded teen in a second-floor apartment of a multi-family building.

She was rushed to an area hospital before being treated and released, police said. The bullet was apparently fired from the street, went through an area below her apartment window and into the living room.

Detectives from the city Ceasefire Unit, which handles non-fatal shootings, were canvassing the area and an investigation was continuing, Murray added.

Anyone with information was urged to immediately call Detectives Francisco Brito or Christopher Ravallese of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342. Anonymous tips can also be submitted via the city police department’s website at patersonpd.com
