In Teaneck a 41-year-old registered sex offender was charged with sexually abusing “several” boys and girls who ranged from 3 to 5 years old, prosecutors said today.
William Kooney, of Teaneck, was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of sexual assault and four counts of child endangerment, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The parents of the victims reported the abuse to township police, county Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said in a statement. The children provided details of what occurred during interviews with Special Victims Unit investigators.
Molinelli described the children as “acquaintances” of Kooney, but did not provide additional details.
Authorities said Kooney was ordered held at the Bergen County Jail on $750,000, with no 10 percent option and ordered not have any contact with the victims.
The state Megan’s Law database shows Kooney registered as a sex offender in a 2009 Passaic County case of having child pornography and sexually assaulting a girl younger than 13 years old.
