2 charged in Willowbrook Mall bathroom drug deal, police say

Detectives set up surveillance of the area on Wednesday, according to Capt. Laurence Martin.

Which then led authorities to discover the two men. One of the men, Austin J. Demarest, 20, of Hewitt, wrestled with police in an attempt to escape, Martin said. Demarest was charged with resisting arrest and heroin possession before being released on a summons.

The accused dealer, Larry W. Urtarte, 21, of Paterson, was charged with heroin and marijuana possession and distribution, the captain added. Urtarte was released after his bail was set at $5,000.

Urtarte was also wanted on a simple assault charge out of Paterson, according to police.

In total, Martin said the arrests netted 44 glassine bags of heroin stamped “PUNCH EM” along with 18 bags of suspected marijuana.
Wanaque and Ringwood detectives joined township investigators in making the arrests, police added.
