Passaic NJ police are investigating a fatal shooting on a city street that left one person dead and another person seriously injured.
The shooting occurred around 11:21 p.m. in the area of 37 Federal Street in Passaic, New Jersey. Two people, a 23-year-old Passaic man and a 20-year-old Woodland Park man, were walking on the sidewalk when someone used a handgun to fire multiple gunshots in their direction.
The Passaic Police Department received a 911 call about the shooting incident and sent officers and paramedics to the scene. Emergency medical responders transported both victims to St. Joseph s Regional Medical Center in Paterson NJ.
Doctors at the Paterson hospital pronounced the Passaic victim dead, while the Woodland Park victim was treated for his wounds and later released.
The Passaic Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the violent incident. If law enforcement can identify and apprehend the shooter, that person would probably face criminal charges for first degree murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses.
