Reportedly by NJ.com, A 19-year-old Clifton man tried to outrun police by car and on foot, but was tackled by officers after he abandoned his vehicle on the lawn of a house early today, authorities stated.
Kevin Acosta faces several charges including aggravated assault with a weapon, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated and more than a dozen traffic violations, according to police.
The chase began when Passaic police tried to pull over Acosta around 1:30 a.m. in the city after they spotted him swerving and run a red light, according to police.
Acosta sped away on Route 21, but Clifton police soon saw the car and tried to stop him, according to police.
Acosta tried to ram a cruiser, but the officer was able to dodge a crash, according to Clifton Detective Sgt. Robert Bracken. The fleeing driver lost control of the Hyundai and drove onto the front yard of a house in Hasbrouck Heights.
Bracken said Acosta then took off on foot before police grabbed him in a struggle.
There were no injuries and Acosta was transferred to Passaic police custody, Bracken added.
