Authorities recently received a report of an armed robbery, after which the suspects were said to have taken refuge in a Clifton hotel. Soon, officials from a host of law enforcement agencies in the area responded to the scene, ultimately arresting three men who are now charged with robbery and weapons offenses.
A coordinated investigation was conducted by police officers from Clifton, Rutherford, Lyndhurst, Bloomfield, Nutley, Paterson, East Rutherford, Haledon and Montclair State University, as well as units from the Passaic and Bergen County Sheriff’s Offices, when Clifton Police received a report of an armed robbery. Specifically, the suspects are accused of robbing a cab driver at gunpoint in the vicinity of Delawanna Avenue and Oak Street.
The three assailants allegedly fled to the La Quinta Inn, located on Route 3 in Clifton after the crime. Law enforcement soon established a perimeter and conducted a four-hour sweep of the hotel, which led to the three arrests. The suspects, who remain unidentified, are now facing charges for robbery and weapons offenses.
Although the specific weapons charges have not been disclosed, the defendants have likely been charged with first-degree robbery due to the involvement of a weapon in the alleged offense. A first degree robbery conviction in New Jersey is punishable by a 10 to 20-year prison sentence, with a minimum period of parole ineligibility fixed at 85 percent of the sentence imposed, per the terms of the No Early Release Act.
