A shooting occurred on Christmas morning outside a strip club in Irvington, New Jersey, which resulted in five wounded victims, three of whom died from their injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced the deaths of 34-year-old Elizabeth resident Pierre Clervoyant Jr., 32-year-old Hillside resident Woodley Daniel, and 27-year-old Newark resident Mushir Cureton, who were all pronounced deceased at approximately 1 a.m. at University Hospital in Newark. Additional victims include a 27-year-old man from Irvington as well as a 34-year-old man from East Orange. These victims, whose names have not been disclosed, were also shot and received medical care at University Hospital.
According to reports, at approximately 12:30 a.m. on December 25th, at least two individuals were attempting to enter Slick’s Go-Go, located near Nye Avenue and 21st Street in Irvington. Bouncer Woodley Daniel, an employee of the bar who was responsible for checking those entering for weapons, identified that one of the suspects was carrying a gun while patting him down, at which time he asked the man to leave the premises. The problem escalated outside, when the man shot Daniel and the other victims at approximately 12:45 a.m.
According to the bar’s owner, Pierre Clervoyant Sr., his son, who managed Slick’s, was attempting to assuage the agitated man when he was shot and killed as well. Clervoyant Jr. was an employee of the city of Elizabeth’s Office on Aging in addition to his role as the manager of the bar.
An investigation of the incident is being conducted by officers from the Irvington Police Department as well as officials from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray and Irvington Police director Joseph Santiago.
A suspect has yet to be identified but witnesses reported seeing a gray sedan fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting and police obtained a computer with surveillance video from the bar. Further, authorities from the county’s CrimeStoppers program are currently offering a $10,000 reward in exchange for information regarding the suspect, who will likely face multiple homicide charges.
