South Orange NJ police are searching for suspects in a robbery and assault.
Last month, three (3) South Orange teenagers were allegedly robbed and attacked as they walked down a township street.
The teenage victims told police that they were approached by five (5) male teenagers near the Pathmark supermarket on Valley Street.
The suspects threatened to use a gun, although a gun was not actually seen by the victims. One of the victims was punched in the face and another victim was placed in a headlock.
According to police, the assailants took cell phones and wallets from the victims.
Witnesses said that the attackers fled on foot and got into a waiting vehicle on Valley Street.
In NJ, aggravated assault is governed under N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b). According to the statute, a person can be charged with third degree aggravated assault if he causes bodily injury to another person while using a deadly weapon. In this case, if the suspects are apprehended and convicted of third degree aggravated assault, they could be sentenced to as many as five (5) years in NJ State Prison.
