Secaucus NJ police arrested a Garfield NJ woman for drunk driving (DWI) after she was allegedly involved in a motor vehicle accident in a Secaucus Road parking lot.
Secaucus police arrived at the scene in response to a report of a fender bender. According to police, 30-year-old Garfield resident Aneta Wanat backed her 2013 Honda into a 2000 Ford taxi cab.
At the scene, officers interviewed Ms. Wanat. Based on Ms. Wanat’s responses to questions, the officers believed that Ms. Wanat had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
The officers administered field sobriety tests, which Ms. Wanat allegedly failed. After Ms. Wanat failed the field sobriety tests, she was placed under arrest.
Ms. Wanat has been charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI).
The penalties for a drunk driving offense in New Jersey are particularly severe. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, a conviction for first offense DWI can result in a sentence of up to 30 days in the jail. Additionally, even if this was only Ms. Wanat’s first DWI offense, she could have her driver’s license suspended for up to one (1) year.
Ms. Wanat was later released on a summons to appear in court.
