According to authorities, a woman was robbed while waiting to get her ashes on Ash Wednesday. Police say the woman was standing outside of St. Brendan’s church in Clifton waiting for the church to open when a car drove up onto the sidewalk close to where she was standing and a man swung open the car door and approached her. The man allegedly went up to the victim with a metal object in his hand and grabbed her purse. The woman tried to fight the man, however he pushed her to the ground and fled with her purse.
The suspect was later identified as 21 year-old Marc Terwilliger from Fair Lawn. Terwilliger is charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. A person is guilty of Robbery if, in the course of committing a theft, he: Inflicts bodily injury or uses force upon another; or threatens another with or purposely puts him in fear of immediate bodily injury; or commits or threatens immediately to commit any crime of the first or second degree.
