Passaic County sheriff s officers recently initiated a traffic stop in Paterson NJ and arrested a woman who allegedly concealed a firearm in her bra.
Police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Route 20 and Seventh Avenue in Paterson after reportedly observing that the vehicle was speeding and swerving across the road.
While talking to the driver, a 23-year-old Paterson NJ man, cops reportedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from the car.
The driver and a female passenger were ordered out of the car so that police could conduct a search.
When a Paterson police officer searched the female suspect, the cop allegedly discovered a .38-caliber Taurus revolver that was loaded with five bullets. The police officer also allegedly found a bag containing marijuana. Both the weapon and the narcotics were reportedly hidden in the suspect s bra.
The female suspect was subsequently placed under arrest and taken to Paterson police headquarters.
The suspect has been charged with multiple crimes, including illegal possession of a handgun and simple possession of marijuana.
If the suspect is convicted on the most serious criminal weapons charges, she would be subject to severe penalties that include significant prison time. Under the NJ Graves Act, anyone convicted of unlawfully possessing a firearm in New Jersey faces a minimum mandatory term of incarceration in NJ State Prison.
The male suspect was also placed under arrest because he allegedly had two outstanding arrest warrants stemming from failure to pay child support.
