Police recently arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Paterson New Jersey man.
The violent incident occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Paterson Street in Paterson, NJ. Someone came across the victim in the vicinity of an abandoned home and immediately dialed 911 to alert local law enforcement.
Police officers and emergency medical crews rushed to the scene, but they were unable to save the victim s life. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the stabbing. He was 50 years old at the time of his death.
Detectives with the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office investigated the killing and eventually determined the identity of the possible culprit. He was later apprehended and arrested without incident in Paterson NJ.
The suspect is a 28-year-old man who lives in Hightstown in Mercer County, New Jersey. He now faces criminal charges for first degree murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
If the suspect is ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of murder, he would be subject to severe penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is a special kind of first degree felony that can result in a punishment of life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
