A man who used a gun to hold up several grocery stores in Paterson NJ is headed to prison after pleading guilty to armed robbery charges.
The suspect, a 27-year-old Paterson NJ resident, robbed grocery stores located throughout Paterson NJ in November 2012. While committing the theft crimes, the suspect used a 9mm handgun and threatened store employees unless they handed over cash.
The suspect was eventually placed under arrest and charged with multiple crimes, including seven counts of armed robbery and illegal possession of a handgun.
While the criminal charges were pending, the suspect allegedly tampered with the jury in the case and also threatened the father of his co-defendant. According to Passaic County prosecutors, the suspect called the victim on the phone and threatened to kill the victim s son if he testified against him at trial. As a result, the suspect was charged with jury tampering and terroristic threats.
The suspect ultimately avoided trial by reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors.
The suspect will still have to make an appearance in Passaic County Superior Court in June 2017 so that a judge can okay the plea deal. At that time, the suspect will likely be sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
