With 5,060 crimes reported in Paterson NJ in 2016, the total number of crimes in the city last year was down significantly from the previous year. In fact, the figure represented a 12-percent decrease from 2015. Moreover, this was the lowest number of crimes reported in Paterson in 25 years.
The news bodes well for 2017, with law enforcement strategies and tactics effectively discouraging individuals from committing crimes in Paterson, New Jersey. These strategies include increase patrols throughout the city and targeted patrols in areas of the city that are known for criminal activity and gang violence.
Paterson Police Department Director Jerry Speziale issued a statement about the latest crime data and said that law enforcement would continue to work together to find new and innovative approaches to further reduce crime.
There was some bad news in the Uniform Crime Report. Although overall crime was down last year, the number of homicides remained the same. In both 2015 and 2016, there were 19 murders in Paterson, NJ.
