Clifton New Jersey police have released the identity of the suspect in a scary motorcycle accident on a local roadway. Christopher Cena, a Clifton NJ resident, faces criminal charges for eluding police and aggravated assault on a police officer after a Clifton cop was injured during a high-speed chase that ended in Paterson, New Jersey.
According to Clifton NJ detectives, Cena was riding his motorcycle on Grove Street in Clifton, NJ when a patrol cop saw him commit a traffic violation. The Clifton patrol officer attempted to get Cena to pull over his motorcycle; instead, the suspect allegedly drove away and led police on a high-speed pursuit.
The dangerous chase ended when Cena s motorcycle collided with the police officer s patrol car in Paterson, New Jersey. The Clifton police officer sustained serious injuries in the crash, including head trauma.
The 27-year-old suspect, who lives in Clifton NJ, now faces very serious criminal charges. In addition to being cited for numerous traffic violations, Cena has also been charged with aggravated assault and eluding law enforcement.
If Cena is convicted of aggravated assault, he would be subject to significant penalties. That s because N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b) classifies an assault on a law enforcement officer as a third degree felony that carries a potential punishment of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
After being arrested and charged in the case, Cena was remanded to the Passaic County Jail. He was being held at the correctional facility in lieu of $100,000 bail, with no 10-percent cash option available for posting bail.
