Paterson NJ Police Investigate Shooting of Local Resident on City Street

Paterson New Jersey Assault AttorneysPaterson New Jersey police are investigating a shooting that left a local man with serious injuries.

The shooting incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. According to authorities, the Paterson Police Department received a report of gunshots being fired in the area of North 3rd Street and Jefferson Street in Paterson, NJ. The report came from the Paterson ShotSpotter gunfire detection system.

When police officers with the Paterson Police Department s Ceasefire Unit arrived at the scene of the shooting, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck.

The victim, a 28-year-old man who resides in Paterson, NJ, was briefly treated at the scene and then rushed to St. Joseph s Regional Medical Center. He received medical treatment for his injuries and was later listed in critical but stable condition.

Paterson NJ detectives are actively investigating the non-fatal shooting. At this time, investigators have not yet identified a suspect.

If police can eventually determine the identity of the shooter, it is possible that the culprit would face serious criminal charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), a person who commits an assault with a gun or knife can be charged with a third degree felony. A conviction on third degree aggravated assault charges could result in a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
