In an update on a previous post, an additional man has been identified by police in connection with a carjacking that occurred in Paterson, New Jersey shortly before the New Year.
The carjacking was executed near 4th Avenue and East 23rd Street in Paterson on December 29th at approximately 8:15 p.m. The perpetrators reportedly used a gun to hijack a vehicle containing a male driver and female passenger, subsequently shooting the male victim several times. They allegedly pushed the female passenger out of the car and shot the driver in the back as he attempted to flee the vehicle. Fortunately, the man survived his injuries and was released after hospitalization.
We previously reported that police identified 20-year-old Rahjohn Rutherford, who was already being detained at the Paterson City Jail, in connection with the carjacking-shooting incident. Rutherford was charged with attempted murder, carjacking, robbery, aggravated assault,kidnapping, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
In more recent news concerning this case, 19-year-old Paterson resident Michael Luck is now wanted on charges for attempted murder, kidnapping, and weapons offenses for allegedly participating in the commission of the crime. According to officials from the Paterson Police Department, Luck remains at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities have requested that any information regarding Luck’s current location be forwarded to the Paterson Police Cease-Fire Unit at 973-321-1342, or the Paterson Police anonymous tips line at 973-523-TIPS.
Both Rutherford and Luck are facing decades of imprisonment if they are convicted of the charges against them, as some are for crimes of the first degree. For example, an attempted murder conviction can carry a sentence of 10 to 20 in prison. Further, carjacking convictions are subject to extended terms of incarceration ranging from 10 to 30 years.
