Second Suspect in Shooting of Paterson NJ Boy Arrested, Charged with Aggravated Assault

Paterson New Jersey Assault ChargesPolice in New York recently arrested a second person accused of shooting a young boy earlier this year in Paterson, New Jersey.

The violent shooting incident occurred on February 29, 2016 outside a residence on Rosa Parks Boulevard in Paterson, NJ. The suspects were allegedly involved in a shooting that resulted in a bullet flying through a window at the house and striking a seven-year-old boy in the shoulder.

The victim sustained a significant gunshot-related injury to the shoulder as a result of the shooting. Remarkably, the young child was able to dial 911 on his own and alert the Paterson Police Department to the shooting. Paterson cops and emergency medical responders soon arrived at the scene and transported the boy to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Paterson police investigated the shooting and determined that the boy was not targeted. Instead, authorities said, the victim was hit by an errant bullet stemming from a possible gang-related shooting.

Two months after the violent incident, police arrested the first suspect in connection with the shooting. The shooting suspect, Justin Pope, is a rapper who reportedly lives in Paterson, NJ. He has been charged with attempted murder, but is currently free on bail while awaiting trial in Passaic County Superior Court.

Now authorities have arrested a second man in connection with the shooting of the young boy. The second suspect was apprehended by NYPD officers after he was allegedly caught shoplifting at a store in New York City.

The second suspect in the shooting is a 28-year-old man from Paterson, NJ. He has been charged with multiple criminal offenses, including aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and unlawful possession of a weapon. It is unclear at this time if the suspect will also be charged with attempted murder.

Passaic County prosecutors are currently in the process of extraditing the suspect from New York to New Jersey so that he can be processed and formally charged.
