Raritan man arrested for sexually assaulting women in Somerset County parks

Rogelio Calyeca Postrero, a 38-year old man who, until the date of his arrest, was residing in Raritan, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault, Lewdness and Exhibiting False Government Documents, as per the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Postrero was allegedly caught masturbating near a bridge in Raritan Borough last week and arrested by law enforcement. While in custody, detectives purportedly noticed that he looked like the man in the NJ State Police sketch released following reported sexual assaults in July 2021 (Bridgewater) and May 2022 (Franklin). He also apparently looked very similar to the description given by one of the assault victim.

As a result, officers obtained a search warrant for Postrero’s home. The search revealed a bicycle that matched the description of the bicycle used by the assailant to flee the Franklin assault. DNA evidence was then used to link Postrero to the Bridgewater assault.

In October of 2021, law enforcement received multiple calls regarding a man who was committing sexual offenses against women in a Hillsborough neighborhood. Postrero has not been linked to those cases.

In the State of NJ, Aggravated Sexual Assault is a crime of the First Degree (the most serious in the state). If convicted, Postrero faces a term of incarceration between 10-20 years in NJ State Prison. In addition, convictions for sexual offenses may also result in the imposition of a number of conditions upon release, including but not limited to Megan’s Law Registration and Parole Supervision for Life. Most importantly, if Postrero is not a citizen of the United States, he may also face deportation proceedings following a resolution of this matter.
