Paterson NJ Man Convicted of Sexually Assaulting Juvenile Girl

Paterson NJ Sexual Assault LawyersA Paterson NJ man has been convicted of sexually assaulting an underage girl.

According to law enforcement, the suspect committed the sex crimes several years ago when the victim was between the ages of 12 and 14. Now the victim is 19 years old.

After an investigation by the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office, the suspect was placed under arrest.

The suspect, a 39-year-old resident of Paterson NJ, was subsequently charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.

During a trial in Passaic County Superior Court, the prosecution entered into evidence a video that showed the suspect confessing to committing the sexual offenses. Additionally, the victim testified against the suspect.

At the conclusion of the trial, the jury returned guilty verdicts on all of the criminal charges.

While the suspect awaits a formal sentencing hearing in Passaic County Superior Court, he is being held at the Passaic County Jail. He will appear in court on December 2, at which time he will be sentenced.

Since N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2(a) classifies the crime of aggravated sexual assault as a first degree felony, the suspect could potentially be sentenced to 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
