Paterson NJ police recently arrested a man who allegedly had an illegal handgun in his car during a traffic stop.
According to authorities, the suspect was spotted committing a traffic violation by performing an illegal U-turn near the intersection of East 41st Street and 18th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey. Two sheriff s officers with the Passaic County Sheriff s Office pulled over the suspect s vehicle, a silver GMC truck.
When the cops spoke with the driver, he reportedly appeared to be nervous. At one point during his conversation with the Passaic County police officers, he allegedly motioned toward his vehicle glove box.
The police officers subsequently searched the truck and allegedly discovered a Starfire 9mm handgun. Additionally, the firearm was reportedly loaded with one round in the gun s chamber and another 11 rounds in the ammunition magazine. According to law enforcement, the handgun was not registered.
The suspect, a 41-year-old Paterson NJ man, was placed under arrest and charged with multiple crimes, including illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
While being processed, police learned that the suspect actually had an outstanding criminal warrant out of Paterson, New Jersey. As part of his supervised parole, he was not allowed to be in possession of a weapon. As a result, the suspect was also charged with a certain persons offense.
