Paterson NJ Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Young Child in Passaic NJ Classroom

Passaic NJ police arrested a Paterson NJ man and charged him with sexually assaulting a child in a classroom.

62-year-old Luis A. Martinez-Palencia was a pre-school teacher’s aide at School No. 17 in Passaic, New Jersey. The victim was a student in Mr. Martinez-Palencia’s pre-school class. The victim, who is now eight (8) years old, reported the alleged incidents to his mother. The victim’s mother then contacted authorities, who investigated the allegations.

At the time of the alleged incidents, the victim was between the ages of three (3) and five (5).

Mr. Martinez-Palencia has been charged with second degree sexual assault, second degree endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct.

In New Jersey, sexual assault is addressed by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2b and N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2c. As set forth by the statutes, sexual assault is classified as a second degree crime. If Mr. Martinez-Palencia is convicted of second degree sexual assault, he faces as many as ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison.
