Detectives with the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office recently identified the victim in a fatal shooting on a Paterson NJ street.
According to law enforcement, the homicide occurred around 9:00 p.m. The Paterson Police Department received multiple reports of gunshots being fired at 29 Ellison Street in Paterson, New Jersey.
When police officers got to the scene, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was rushed to nearby St. Joseph s Regional Medical Center, where doctors tried to save him. Tragically, the victim was pronounced dead a few hours after arriving at the hospital.
Now authorities have identified the victim as a 64-year-old man who owned a store in Paterson NJ. Police have not yet released any information about which store the victim owned.
The Passaic County Prosecutor s Office and the Paterson Police Department s major crimes division are actively investigating the shooting.
If investigators are able to identify and apprehend a suspect in the shooting, it is likely that criminal charges for first degree murder would follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is the most serious crime in the New Jersey Criminal Code and carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years in NJ State Prison.
