Newark NJ Woman Sentenced to 55 Years for Stabbing, Killing Romantic Rival

A Newark NJ woman was sentenced to 55 years in New Jersey State Prison for tossing bleach in the eyes of her romantic rival before fatally stabbing her as the victim’s two (2) young children watched.

On May 15, 2010, 23-year-old Nadiyah Venable confronted 29-year-old Sha-Ron Moens in Ms. Moens’ Newark home. Ms. Venable was upset after learning that her boyfriend was calling off their relationship to reunite with Ms. Moens.

Ms. Venable threw bleach in Ms. Moens’ eyes and then stabbed her 30 times while Ms. Moens’ two children watched. Ms. Moens’ children were three (3) years old and six (6) years old at the time.

On June 27 of this year, following a three-week trial, an Essex County jury deliberated for just two (2) hours before finding Ms. Venable guilty of murder, burglary, and weapons charges.

Under the terms of the sentence delivered by an Essex County Superior Court judge, Ms. Venable will serve a minimum of 47 years in state prison before becoming eligible for parole.
