In a series of arrests, Newark NJ police arrested a shooting suspect and seized a large supply of marijuana, heroin, and cocaine.
In one weekend, Newark police officers responded to a robbery in the 200 block of Clifton Avenue. The officers arrived on the scene and, after a brief chase, arrested 42-year-old Carmelo DeJesus.
A subsequent investigation led to a search of Mr. DeJesus’ apartment, where officers recovered 764 grams of marijuana and $1,200.00 in cash.
Mr. DeJesus was charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession of marijuana. Mr. DeJesus was also charged with resisting arrest.
Later, in an unrelated case, detectives from the Newark Fugitive Apprehension Team executed a warrant in the area of Bergen Street and 18th Avenue and arrested 42-year-old Jazir Gordon, a Newark man wanted in connection with a July shooting on Mahogany Court.
After being arrested, Mr. Gordon was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
That same morning, in yet another unrelated case, members of the Newark Fugitive Apprehension Team searched a North 6th Street home and found 612 bags of crack cocaine, 180 glassine envelopes of heroin, and three (3) loaded handguns. 63-year-old Anthony Stone and 34-year-old Edward Thompson were arrested and charged with multiple drug and weapons offenses in connection with the seizures.
