A pair of men in Riverdale, face multiple charges after allegedly trying to shoplift more than $3,000 worth of merchandise from Walmart on Thursday, police say.
Kaya Lecour, 20, and Barry Green, 46, allegedly loaded up a shopping cart with items and then tried to walk out of the store, without paying, Riverdale Police Lt. James Macintosh said.
The stolen items included cases of 5 Hour Energy drinks, boxes of razor blades, deodorant, shampoo and cell phones, which, the lieutenant said are products “known to be sought after by organized retail thieves.”
When store security tried to intercept the men, Green cooperated with authorities, however Lecour ran off and was quickly apprehended by Riverdale Detective Sgt. Chris Biro, Macintosh said.
Police also discovered about 30 hypodermic needles and other drug paraphernalia in Lecour’s backpack and a glass pipe in a cigarette pack that belonged to Green, the lieutenant said.
Both men were charged with shoplifting, conspiracy to commit shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia, Macintosh said.
Green, who lives in Englewood, was released pending a Feb. 18 court appearance, the lieutenant said.
Lecour, who police said does not have a current address, was also charged with possession of hypodermic needles, Macintosh said.
After Lecour was unable to post $10,000 bail, he was transported to Morris County Correctional Facility and issued a Feb. 18 court date, the lieutenant said.
