Police in Clifton NJ recently arrested a man accused of stealing a police patrol car and then crashing the vehicle.
The criminal incident went down during the late-night hours. According to law enforcement, the suspect was walking near the intersection of Cathedral Avenue and Orange Street in Nutley New Jersey and harassing people on the sidewalk. Someone dialed 911 and alerted police, which dispatched officers to the area.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they encountered the suspect. Somehow, the suspect managed to get behind the wheel of one of the police patrol vehicles. The suspect then drove off, leading police on a high-speed pursuit.
The suspect eventually crashed the vehicle on the Passaic Avenue Ramp in Clifton NJ, which is located north of the Route 3 overpass and near the Clifton-Nutley border.
Three individuals sustained personal injuries as a result of the auto accident. It is unclear at this time if the suspect is one of the people who were injured in the car crash.
The suspect will likely be charged with a number of crimes in connection with the incident, including auto theft.
