Clifton NJ police are trying to find a man who allegedly committed sexual assault at a local restaurant.
The sex crime incident reportedly occurred on July 6. According to law enforcement, the suspect sexually touched an underage girl at The Hot Grill, a popular restaurant in Clifton, New Jersey.
The victim, a 15-year-old girl, was at the diner with her mother. The mom and her daughter were ordering food at the counter when the suspect allegedly made an obscene remark about the young girl. The comment reportedly had something to do with a body part.
The victim and her mom were rattled by the incident. The suspect then walked out of the restaurant, but he allegedly returned just a few minutes later. This time, the suspect allegedly approached the teenage girl and sexually touched her. According to Clifton NJ police, the suspect engaged in an abrupt act of sexual contact with the juvenile female.
After allegedly committing the sexual offense, the suspect ran out of the business and fled the area on foot.
Investigators with the Clifton Police Department are actively investigating the alleged sexual assault. Police recently released a description of the suspect: he is described as a middle-aged white male and witnesses said that he is bug-eyed.
If Clifton police officers can eventually identify and apprehend the suspect, he would likely be charged with criminal sexual contact of a minor. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:14-3(b), anyone who commits an act of sexual contact with a victim who is between the ages of 13 and 16 can be charged with a fourth degree felony. A conviction on fourth degree criminal sexual contact charges could lead to a sentence of up to 18 months in New Jersey State Prison.
Anyone who has information about the suspect or the sexual offense should get in touch with Clifton NJ investigators at 973-470-5911.
