A former substitute teacher in the Newark NJ school system has been sentenced to five (5) years in state prison for sharing images of child pornography.
Earlier this year, 33-year-old East Orange NJ resident Tray Barnard pleaded guilty todistributing child pornography. Under the terms of a plea deal reached with Essex County prosecutors, Mr. Barnard will be required to register as a sex offender after he is released from prison.
According to prosecutors, Mr. Barnard distributed images of prepubescent females and adult men through file-sharing computer software.
After an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Cyber Crimes Unit, Mr. Barnard was arrested and charged with distributing child pornography and endangering the welfare of a child.
Following sentencing, an assistant prosecutor with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said that the office will “aggressively investigate and prosecute” people who distribute sexual images of young children.
