Police in Paterson NJ recently arrested a registered sex offender who allegedly had child pornography on his personal computer.
According to the Passaic County Sheriff s Office, the suspect was barred from using a computer without first getting legal authorization. The Passaic County Internet Crime Unit learned that the suspect was allegedly using his personal computer to download child pornography files from the Internet.
Detectives with the Internet Crime Unit opened an investigation into the suspect and spent approximately two months obtaining evidence that reportedly established that the suspect violated the terms of his sex offender registration under Megan s Law. When police officers seized the suspect s computer from his Paterson NJ apartment, they reportedly discovered 31 files containing illicit sexual images of underage children.
The 29-year-old suspect resides in Paterson, New Jersey. He was previously arrested in December 2006 for aggravated sexual assault of a minor. The victim in the case was under the age of 18 but older than 13 at the time of the sex crime. According to Passaic County court records, the suspect pleaded guilty to the aggravated sexual charge in 2009 and was sentenced to time in NJ State Prison.
One of the conditions of the suspect s release from prison was that he had to submit to mandatory supervision by NJ law enforcement until June 20, 2020. Beyond that, the suspect is subject to parole supervision in New Jersey for the rest of his life. This parole supervision included a requirement to obtain authorization from a parole supervisor prior to using any computer or accessing any online social networks of chat rooms.
The suspect now faces serious criminal charges of possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, and maintaining a file sharing program for the purpose of storing child pornography.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Passaic County Jail in Paterson, New Jersey.
