Clifton New Jersey police are searching for a man accused of committing an armed robbery at a local 7-Eleven convenience store.
According to Clifton NJ officials, the theft incident occurred around 1:02 a.m. The suspect reportedly walked into the 7-Eleven located on Main Avenue in Clifton and approached a store cashier.
The suspect allegedly brandished a knife during the theft and ordered the store worker to hand over cash from the register. At some point during the theft, the suspect allegedly slashed the employee with the knife.
The suspect was able to take an undisclosed amount of money from the register. He then ran out of the store and fled the area.
The Clifton Police Department is actively investigating the robbery. The suspect has been described as a male who is in his 20s and who has a medium build. At this time, law enforcement has yet to determine the identity of the suspect.
If Clifton NJ police can eventually figure out who committed the armed robbery, the culprit would likely face criminal charges for robbery, theft of movable property, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, anyone who uses a deadly weapon such as a knife or a handgun during the commission of a theft can be charged with a first degree felony and potentially sentenced to 10-20 years in NJ State Prison.
