Check on sleeping man leads to heroin arrest in Wayne, police say

In Wayne, police found a man by the name of Michael P. Powasnick, 24 of Vernon sleeping inside a vehicle at the Food Town parking lot around 6pm Sunday Evening. Police officer James Voight thought the man sleeping in a white 2004 Ford Explorer was in need of medical attention.

When Officer Voight arrived Powasnick was sitting up with his head down.

When Powasnick saw Voight approach, he started hiding what he had. A search of the car revealed several 17 bags of suspected heroin, a syringe and six Clonazepam prescription pills, according to Wayne police.

Powasnick was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of prescription drugs without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.
