In Bloomfield five people were arrested on Tuesday after police found them with various drugs and firearms at a local gas station, according to authorities
Police Director Samuel Demaio said Officers Thomas Lutz and Shonah Malodonado were on patrol in the area of a Sunoco on Bloomfield Avenue just before 11 p.m. when they noticed a car that was illegally parked in a handicap space.
As they approached, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. A search followed, which uncovered five grams of marijuana, 7 Xanax pills, 1.5 grams of ecstasy, and two loaded handguns, Demaio said.
Four adults and a 17-year-old inside the car, all of whom hailed from Easton, Pa., were arrested and charged with numerous drug and weapons offenses.
Amanda Butler, 22, was charged with narcotics possession, employing a juvenile in a drug distribution scheme, handgun possession, receiving stolen property and motor vehicle violations.
Dashawn Cosme, 21, and Shadee Johnson, 25, were charged with narcotics possession, employing a juvenile in a drug distribution scheme and receiving stolen property.
Paige Easterly, 19, was charged with possession of ecstasy, and the 17-year-old juvenile was charged with handgun and narcotics possession.
Butler, Cosme and Johnsons were all held at the Essex County Jail on separate $170,000 bonds.
Easterly was held on $2,500 bond, and the juvenile was taken to the Essex County Youth House.
