A story on NJ.com stated five teenagers in Woodbridge ranging in age from 14 to 17 were arrested after leading police officers on two separate stolen-car chases, according to Woodbridge police.
Police recovered two loaded handguns from the teens – a 9 mm semiautomatic with hollow-point bullets and a 22-caliber revolver, police said.
The incident began about 12:35 a.m. Friday when police received a 911 call about a fleeing Buick LeSabre stolen from Prospect Avenue in the Avenel section of town.
Officers found the stolen vehicle parked on Prospect Avenue near a Jeep Cherokee and a Saturn Station Wagon, according to police Capt. Roy Hoppock. They later learned the Saturn was stolen from East Orange.
As officers approached, the Jeep and Saturn sped away.
The Jeep crashed into a snow bank and the suspects fled on foot.
A short time later, the Saturn crashed into another vehicle stopped at the Union Toll Plaza.
No injuries were reported in either crash.
The suspects fled both accident scenes and were later apprehended on foot, police said.
The teens were identified only as one female and four males from Orange, Newark and Irvington, police said.
They were charged with robbery, receiving stolen property, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of prohibited weapons and devices, eluding, conspiracy and possession of marijuana.
The teens are being held at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center
