Newark authorities believe that a man who was shot and killed on a city street had been targeted by his killers.
27-year-old Abdul Healy was shot multiple times while walking on Eagles Parkway, near its intersection with Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Less than half an hour after being shot, Mr. Healy was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokeswoman for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office stated that it appears that Mr. Healy was targeted.
Witnesses told police that the killers were driving in a car when they crashed into a parked vehicle. The killers then allegedly fired several shots at Mr. Healy.
Murder, also known as homicide, is codified in N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3. In New Jersey, murder is considered a first degree crime. Although first degree crimes are ordinarily punishable by a term of imprisonment of between 10 and 20 years in NJ State Prison, NJ treats murder charges treats murder charges even more seriously; anyone convicted of homicide in New Jersey can be sentenced to a term of incarceration ranging from 30 years to life in state prison.
Newark NJ police are still investigating the shooting. They have asked that anyone with information about the incident call the prosecutor’s confidential tips line at 877-847-7432.
