An East Orange NJ woman who was sexually abused by her father and impregnated by him five times will tell her story on the December 9 episode of the television show “Katie,” with Katie Couric.
From the age of eight, Aziza Kibibi was sexually abused by her father, Aswad Ayinde. As a result of the abuse, Kibibi was impregnated five times and gave birth to four children, one of whom subsequently died due to a disease caused by the incestuous relationship.
Growing up in Paterson, Kibibi was isolated from the outside world almost entirely, as her father kept her and his other eight children from attending school, watching television, and making friends.
Her father, who directed music videos such as “Killing Me Softly” for the Fugees, claimed to be a prophet operating under a God-ordained mandate to keep his bloodline pure.
Kibibi’s father was eventually arrested in 2006 and convicted for the sexual assault of Kibibi and one of his other children. He was sentenced to a 90-year term of incarceration.
Ayinde’s crimes constitute aggravated sexual assault, which is considered a crime of the first degree, the most serious in the New Jersey Criminal Code. Aggravated sexual assault is codified under N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a. There are a number of circumstances that render a crime an aggravated sexual assault, including if the victim is less than 13 years old and if the actor is related to the victim by blood or affinity to the third degree. In this specific case, Ayinde’s offenses satisfied both of these criteria.
