Paterson Police recently apprehended a wanted man who is facing charges formurder, assault, and weapons offenses.
21-year-old Kamal “Rico” Edge, is allegedly responsible for the shooting of five people and the death of one after a spree that took place on June 21st. Edge allegedly shot one victim in the hand in the proximity of Mercer and Putnam streets in Paterson, New Jersey. He then moved to a location near East 22nd Street and Park Avenue where he allegedly proceeded to fire into a crowd, killing Quenay Cox, of Paterson. Cox was shot in the abdomen while three other individuals were shot, two of whom were severely injured.
According to the police report, on December 7th, Paterson Police were notified by detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office that Edge was spotted on Governor Street. Detectives as well as officers from the emergency response team of the Paterson Police Department rushed to the location, at which time Edge attempted to flee.
After being cornered by officials, Edge attempted to retrieve a .25 mm handgun from the waistband of his pants and cocked the hammer before an officer tackled him. The gun was reportedly stolen from North Carolina.
Authorities also stated that they found 11 glassines of heroin on Edge’s person at the time of his arrest. He could now also be charged with possession of heroin in addition to the charges he is currently facing. Among the offenses for which he will be prosecuted, murder is considered the most egregious in the New Jersey Criminal Code. It is classified as a crime of the first degree under N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, and is punishable by a term of incarceration from 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison.
