Four People Murdered in Single Day in Newark NJ

Four (4) people, including a 54-year-old grandmother, were killed in a recent spate of violence in Newark, New Jersey.

Ruby Green, a 54-year-old grandmother, was stabbed multiple times and killed in her Newark NJ home. According to authorities, Ms. Green’s body was discovered by her daughter. The body of Ms. Green’s 64-year-old boyfriend was found in the bathroom. Police have not yet identified Ms. Green’s boyfriend.

Investigators believe that both Ms. Green and her boyfriend were targeted.

That same day, 38-year-old East Orange resident Dana Andre Pridgen was shot and killed on West End Avenue. According to witnesses, a group of people opened fire on Mr. Pridgen, who also went by the name Tykal Linder.

A few hours later, 22-year-old Irvington resident Jahid Jordan was gunned down on South Orange Avenue.

Police believe that the deaths of Mr. Pridgen and Mr. Jordan were drug-related. Mr. Pridgen had been released from prison just a few months earlier, having served three (3) years forassaulting a police officer. According to Newark police, Mr. Pridgen was trying to reclaim his old drug turf in the weeks leading up to his murder.

The wave of violence brought the total number of murders in Newark so far this year to 82. The city is on pace to record the most homicides in a single year since 2007.
