An Englewood NJ man was in serious but stable condition after being shot in the back during a robbery in Paterson, New Jersey.
The 46-year-old victim told authorities that he was unloading equipment on a lot on Lafayette near East 16th Street when two (2) men approached him and attempted to rob him. According to police, at least one (1) of the suspects had a handgun.
The victim told police that the attempted robbery led to a struggle, during which he was shot in the buttocks.
Police said that after the shooting, the suspects fled the scene while the victim made his way to a nearby firehouse. The victim received preliminary medical treatment at the firehouse before being taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he was considered to be in serious but stable condition
In New Jersey, aggravated assault is governed under N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b). According to the statute, an assault is elevated to second degree aggravated assault if the attacker attempts to cause “serious” bodily injury to a person. In this case, the attackers could be charged with second degree aggravated assault. If the attackers are apprehended and convicted, they may face up to ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison.
