A few weeks ago, a high school English teacher in Wall Township NJ was charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault after being accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with one of her 15-year-old students.
In July, a complaint was filed against 22-year-old Kalee Warnick, a first-year teacher at Wall High School in Wall Township, New Jersey. According to the complaint, Ms. Warnick had inappropriate contact with a male student who attended the high school.
Ms. Warnick’s attorney indicated that Ms. Warnick will plead not guilty to the charges.
In New Jersey, the penalties for aggravated sexual assault are severe. N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2a classifies aggravated sexual assault as a first degree felony. As a result, if convicted, Ms. Warnick may be sentenced to a period of incarceration of 20 years in state prison. And because the No Early Release Act (NERA) applies to aggravated sexual assault convictions, Ms. Warnick would be required to serve a minimum of 85% of her sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Shortly after being arrested, Ms. Warnick posted $50,000.00 bail and was released from custody.
