Rapper Charged with Assault is Held in Bergen County Jail

According to authorities, rapper, Fivio Foreign was arrested in Bergen county and is being held in the Bergen County Jail. According to court documents, the rapper whose real name is Maxie Lee Ryles III is charged with simple assault with bodily injury in an incident which occurred shortly after 9 am on Saturday in Edgewater. Myles’ daughter’s mother is the alleged victim who is also pregnant. Myles allegedly punched the victim in the back of the head, kicked her, and struck her with a glass bottle. He then allegedly pushed her into a hallway without clothes on. The rapper, who has performed songs with Drake and Nas, told police when they arrived that the two were arguing about “relationship issues,” and denied attacking her. The state of New Jersey takes simple assault cases seriously. Simple Assault is codified under N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1a, which provides:

A person is guilty of simple assault if he:

  1. Attempted to cause or purposely, knowingly or recklessly causes bodily injury to another; or
  2. Negligently causes bodily injury to another with a deadly weapon; or
  3. Attempts by physical menace to put another in fear of imminent serious bodily injury.

Simple assault is a disorderly persons offense unless committed in a fight or scuffle entered into by mutual consent, in which case it is a petty disorderly persons offense. Punishment for a disorderly persons offense can range from a fine to up to 6 months in the county jail. Punishment for a petty disorderly persons offense can range from a fine to up to 3 months in the county jail.
