According to authorities, police were called in Mahwah at around 11:15pm and arrived at the Janek’s Market-Deli on Ramapo Valley Road on a report for a burglary. Once they arrived, they observed 46 year-old Mark Todd of Hackensack and they ordered him to stop, but Todd ran to a 1988 Oldsmobile and drove off nearly hitting a police car. A brief high-speed chase (100 mph) ensued down Route 17 with Officers Killroy, Lorio, and Letavish in pursuit.
Todd crashed near the Dunkin Donuts, got out of the vehicle and attempted to run but was quickly captured near Cigar World. He was found to have cash and cigarettes in his possession which was taken during the burglary. He was charged with burglary, eluding, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Police say that Todd has an extensive criminal record, and due to the recent 2017 Bail Reform, he continues to commit crimes while out pending his court hearing.
