Mom and Son Caught in Haledon with Marijuana Edibles, Charged with Distribution

According to authorities, a mother and son duo were found in Haledon with 35 bags of cereal laced with THC, and several other marijuana edibles. According to Lieutenant George Guzman, 48 year-old Connie Rivera and 27 year-old Jason Rivera, both of Paterson, were pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt, and because the mom did not signal to turn at the corner of Cook and W. Clinton Streets. Sgt. Jessica Funes and Patrolwoman Andrea Len arrived on scene to help Patrolman Christian Clavo who allegedly smelled marijuana.

After a search, the officers allegedly found 11 bags of marijuana, jars of marijuana, and marijuana puree along with 36 bags of cereal: Cap’n Crunch, Froot Loops, and Fruity Pebbles which all contained marijuana or were “inundated with THC.” The officers also found ingredients and kitchenware which are used to make the edibles. 

The mother and son were each charged with intent to distribute more than 5 pounds of marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were transported to the Passaic County Jail and are awaiting a court date. Click here to read more at www.northjersey.com.

In New Jersey, Possession and distribution of marijuana is still illegal. In this instance, the suspects were charged with distribution (N.J.S.A. 2C:35-5(b)) which sets forth: Marijuana in a quantity of five pounds or more but less than 25 pounds including any adulterants or dilutants, or 10 or more but fewer than 50 marijuana plants, regardless of weight, or hashish in a quantity of one pound or more but less than five pounds, including any adulterants or dilutants, is guilty of a crime of the Second Degree (punishable by a term of incarceration between 5 and 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
