Paterson law enforcement is investigating a burglary that resulted in a man being shot and a woman being assaulted.
The violent incident occurred at a home located on the 400 block of 10th Avenue in Paterson, New Jersey. According to officials, someone broke into the residence while the homeowner was gone.
The resident, and another person, later returned to the home while the suspect was still inside, prompting the violence.
The Paterson Police Department got a call about the burglary at around 4:00 p.m. and sent cops to the scene. When officers arrived in the area, they found the two victims.
The woman, a 46-year-old Paterson resident, was treated for her assault-related injuries at nearby St. Joseph s Medical Center. The man, a 37-year-old resident of Elizabeth, NJ, was also taken to the Paterson hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound.
The Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor s Office are currently investigating the crime. If police can identify and arrest the culprit, that person would likely face criminal charges for aggravated assault, burglary, and weapons offenses.
