Police arrested a man accused of assaulting a security guard and committing a robbery at Macy s department store in Wayne, New Jersey.
The suspect is a 47-year-old resident of Elmwood Park, NJ. According to law enforcement, he entered the Macy s around 1:00pm and attempted to steal a Breville coffee maker from the store.
While fleeing the Macy s, the suspect was confronted by a security guard before reaching the exit. The suspect then allegedly attacked the guard by striking him multiple times in the head and face.
The suspect continued his way out of the building, but he was stopped by a Wayne NJ police detective who happened to be on patrol outside the Macy s. The police officer noticed the suspect and stopped him for questioning. According to Wayne officials, the officer recognized the suspect because he had a prior criminal record. The suspect was reportedly arrested, and convicted, several times for theft offenses that included credit card theft and burglary.
The suspect has now been charged with multiple crimes in connection with the Macy s theft incident, including robbery by force.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was released from police custody with a pending court appearance.
