A Paterson man allegedly committed a theft in a Wayne NJ high school parking lot just a few minutes after being released from police custody for burglary charges and heroin possession charges.
According to authorities, the suspect was first arrested around 1:15 p.m. at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey. The suspect allegedly used a brick to smash in the window of a car parked at the mall s Park & Ride.
The suspect also allegedly kicked in the window of a different motor vehicle and stole a woman s purse.
Wayne NJ police received a report of the two incidents and dispatched police officers to the scene. When Wayne cops arrived at the parking lot, they found the suspect on board a bus. Police subsequently placed the suspect under arrest.
While conducting a search of the suspect, police reportedly found him in possession of two glassine bags of heroin, as well as two empty glassine bags with heroin residue.
The suspect was charged with multiple crimes, including burglary, theft of movable property, and possession of heroin. He was also charged with defiant trespassing because he had previously been banned from mall property due to previous incidents involving mall security guards.
Police released the suspect from custody at 2:30 p.m. with a summons to appear in court at a later date.
Remarkably, just five minutes later, the suspect allegedly went to the parking lot of Wayne Valley High School and attempted to steal clothing from a vehicle. Wayne NJ police officers reportedly saw the suspect commit the crime.
The suspect is a 38-year-old man who resides in Paterson, New Jersey. As a result of the second incident, he was arrested against and charged with additional counts of burglary and theft of movable property.
This time, the suspect was not released on his own recognizance. Instead, he was taken to the Passaic County Jail, where he was being held on a $500 bail amount.
