Police in Paterson New Jersey arrested 14 people in connection with an alleged prostitution ring.
Paterson NJ police received word of a prostitution operation in multiple sections of the city, with several Paterson residents complaining about prostitutes soliciting sex on the street. Detectives with the Paterson Police Department and officers with the Passaic County Sheriff s Office looked into the allegations and conducted a joint investigation.
Law enforcement eventually decided to conduct a sting operation in two areas of the city: (1) Market Street from 22nd Street to 31st Street and (2) Van Houten Street from 18th Street to Straight Street.
In a press release issued after the arrests were made, Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik said that several undercover officers took part in the sting. Paterson NJ police ultimately arrested 14 people, including 13 women and one man.
Among the suspects are seven Paterson residents, one Clifton NJ resident, and one person from Wayne NJ. The other suspects hailed from different New Jersey counties, including Bergen County, Ocean County, Morris County, Sussex County, and Union County. The suspects who came to Passaic County from elsewhere included one resident of Hackensack NJ, one person from Toms River, one resident of Newton NJ, one Springfield NJ resident, and one person from Lincoln Park.
All of the suspects have been charged with loitering for the purpose of prostitution.
