Police arrested a Paterson New Jersey man who allegedly had 900 envelopes of heroin in his motor vehicle.
Law enforcement made the arrest during a traffic stop. A Paterson NJ narcotics detective stopped the suspect s car, a Mercedes-Benz, near Main Street and Barclay Street.
According to the Passaic County Sheriff s Office, the police officer smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the suspect s vehicle. When the detective spoke with the suspect, he allegedly told the officer that he was smoking weed inside the car prior to being pulled over.
The detective instructed the suspect to get out of the vehicle. He then exited the car and reportedly handed over a small bag filled with marijuana.
A subsequent search of the car by police reportedly led to the discovery of 18 bricks of heroin with 900 envelopes, as well as four grams of cocaine. Officials later said that the drugs have an estimated street value of approximately $5,000.
The suspect, a 20-year-old man from Paterson, NJ, was placed under arrest and charged with numerous drug offenses, including possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin near a public school, and cocaine possession.
After being arrested, the suspect was taken to the Paterson Police Department for processing. He was being held at the police station while awaiting a bail hearing.
