Paterson New Jersey police are looking into the death of a woman at a local bar.
The homicide occurred around 11:15 p.m. at Andy s Bar, which is located on North 7th Street in Paterson, NJ. According to law enforcement, Paterson police officers were sent to the popular neighborhood bar after getting a call about a shooting.
When police officers got to the bar they found two people who had sustained injuries as a result of gunshot wounds. The victims included a 27-year-old woman and a man in his 30s.
Authorities indicated that the suspect entered the Paterson bar and began firing gunshots at the victims.
The female victim, who was from Paterson NJ, was taken to nearby St. Joseph s Regional Medical Center. Tragically, doctors could not save her; she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the male victim was also rushed to the Paterson hospital. He later underwent surgery for his injuries.
The Paterson Police Department is currently investigating the fatal shooting. Investigators have not yet identified a suspect in the case.
If police are able to determine the identity of the suspect, he would probably face serious criminal charges for murder. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is a first degree crime and carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment in NJ State Prison.
